Korea Zinc continues journey for a happy future where nature and people coexist.
What is Green Zinc?
The zinc manufacturing process requires large amounts of electrical energy, which is made from a large amount of fossil fuels. ‘Green Zinc’ is an eco-friendly zinc produced by converting this energy source, which is essential in the zinc manufacturing process, into new and renewable energy.

- Korea Zinc’s Efforts for ‘Green Zinc’
- Korea Zinc is striving to achieve ‘Green Zinc’, an environmentally friendly future value, by reducing the use of fossil fuels required in the zinc manufacturing process and increasing the use of new and renewable energy. Sun Metals Corporation (SMC), a subsidiary of Korea Zinc in Australia, joined RE100 for the first time in the global zinc smelting industry last year, and was recognized as leading the way in carbon zero. (RE100 is a global initiative that promises to convert 100% of the electricity used by the world's most influential companies to renewable energy in all their business sites.) Following SMC, Korea Zinc, the parent company, joined the RE100 for the first time in the industry in 2021, continuing to strengthen its capabilities as the most eco-friendly and competitive company. SMC is pushing to significantly increase the use of renewable energy through the new and renewable energy business of Ark Energy, which was newly established by Korea Zinc in Feb, 2021. Ark Energy recently decided to participate in a 923-megawatt (MW) wind power generation project (Macintyre Wind Farm) to be built in Queensland and became the driving force for Korea Zinc's new and renewable energy business.

- Korea Zinc's steps towards an environmentally friendly future
- Currently, SMC is receiving about 24% of its total electricity from renewable energy through the solar power plant and wind power generation projects built in 2018. SMC plans to increase the proportion of new and renewable energy will be 85% by 2025 and 100% by 2040. Korea Zinc plans to achieve 100% Green Zinc through 0% carbon emission (Net Zero) in 2050 by aggressively expanding eco-friendly portfolio including renewable energy projects and green hydrogen energy business.
